Probabilistic Risk Analysis (PRA)

System Reliability Analysis

Risk analysis of high hazard engineered systems has evolved over the last four decades to a sophisticated methodology known as probabilistic risk analysis (PRA), also known as quantitative risk analysis (QRA). Different variants of this methodology are employed in different industries, matching the conditions and characteristics of their systems and level of hazard posed by those systems. For the nuclear power industry, it can be safely claimed that it has the most advanced PRA methodology. For example, issues related to external events (e.g., fire or seismic events), human error issues, and common cause failures, have been studied extensively and methods and data specific to these issues have been developed and continue to be researched.

Kazarians & Associates, Inc. has the necessary expertise and the specific experience to support PRA / QRA projects for systems from such industries as nuclear power, chemicals processing, oil refining, oil and gas production, transportation (rail and highway), and aviation. We have the expertise to apply probabilistic methods to estimate the likelihood of various accident scenarios, to calculate the consequences of such scenarios, and to present the results in terms of risk curves and other risk measures.
